Over a 30-year career of investing, Mr. Finkel provided capital and support to over 50 companies, including as the first institutional investor to fund 2 of Illinois’ most successful Information Technology companies: Fieldglass, which sold to SAP for $1 billion, and Trustwave, which sold to Singapore Telecom for $850 million. Mr. Finkel is the founder and former Chairman of the Illinois Venture Capital Association.

In addition, Mr. Finkel is the author of “The Masters of Private Equity and Venture Capital” (McGraw Hill Business Books), featuring 10 of the country’s most notable venture capital and private equity investors. Mr. Finkel is an active Angel investor.

As Rootmaster and CEO of Forbidden Root, Mr. Finkel developed a line of botanic craft beer under the name Forbidden Root. The company has three restaurant/brewery operations and distribution in Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH.

Forbidden Root won Best Brewpub in the country in USA Today’s Best Brewpub readers’ poll.

The Rootmaster is at it again, integrating cool flavors into great tequila. Tequila Cultiverde will initially launch 2 flavors in Chicago, Pitaya Rosa (Dragon Fruit) and Limonero (Lemon Tree).

Mr. Finkel earned a BA from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Mr. Finkel served on the Junior Achievement Board of Chicago and the Governing Board for the Bulletin for the Atomic Scientists.
