The Love Handle

Drinking for a Cause

Here at Forbidden Root our passion isn’t limited to food and beer, it also extends to giving back. We’re a benefit corporation, which means goals other than shareholder value are built into our operating charter. We also donate all the profits from our non-consumable merchandise to charity (currently Green City Market), and now we’re working on our love handle.

Yep, just one. A love handle is great; love handles, less so. Let us explain: we’re dedicating draft line 15 as a rotating guest tap wherein $2 from every glass sold will be donated to an organization that’s making a difference. We’ll partner with another craft brewery whose beer we love and, together, pick a charity we’re mutually passionate about. Once we run through a couple kegs of their beer, we’ll partner with a new brewery and, with them, pick the next charity to keep the good vibes flowing.

To kick off this love fest, we’re partnering with the good people at Half Acre Beer Company. Daisy Cutter will take up residence on tap 15, followed by Akari Shogun, to benefit the Chicago Rowing Foundation, a program that allows any student, from any school or any economic or ethnic background the opportunity to row with teams spanning multiple age groups and skill levels. CRF is a favorite charity of Half Acre co-founder Gabriel Magliaro’s because it takes a comprehensive approach to the physical, mental and social well-being of its athletes while creating an environment that promotes exercise, teamwork, and positive role models. Even better? 100% of their participants have graduated from high school. Pretty rad.

So come drink some kickass beers from badass people in support of a really fine cause. Love Handle thanks you.
